Building Inspection
Our normal hours of operation for phone inquiries and scheduled appointments are Monday through Friday, 8 am to 3 pm. To speak to a staff member or to schedule an appointment, please call 419-245-1220.
Inspections
Inspections will be scheduled and performed Monday through Friday. You can access the online permit portal where you can apply for permits, make payments, and schedule inspections. To schedule your inspection with our 24-hour automated system, please call 419-936-2720.
Plan Review
Construction documents, plans and applications can be mailed to our office or dropped off at the Division of Building Inspection. Our office is located at One Government Center, 640 Jackson Street, on the 16th floor. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday thru Friday. Please include your application and any supporting documents. All documents must be completed in full and signed.

Credit Card Payment
You can pay for your permit online through the online portal, after the permit is created. You can pay using; Visa, MasterCard, and Discover. There is a credit card surcharge fee of 2.95%. We also offer Electronic check, this method has a flat $1 fee.

The Division of Building Inspection is a state-certified building inspection department enforcing the state’s building and mechanical codes to ensure the health and safety of the structures in which the public occupies. Its goal is to provide professional and efficient service to its citizen customer base while processing permits, reviewing plans, performing inspections, issuing certificates of occupancy or construction trade licenses. The Division recognizes the integral role it plays in the economic vitality of the City, its neighborhoods and the community at large. In force are the Ohio Building Code, the Residential Code of Ohio and the associated mechanical, electrical and fire safety codes.
Mission
The mission of the Division of Building Inspection is to serve the public interest to protect the health, safety and welfare of our citizens by assuring that all buildings, structures, and related equipment are constructed, installed, and maintained in compliance with the standards contained within the currently adopted Ohio Building Codes and Toledo Municipal Code, while contributing to economic development.
All the improvements to Building Inspection are to streamline and make our department efficient and more transparent. We are utilizing technology to accelerate all processes: applying for permits, managing licenses, plan review, and scheduling inspections. We will continue to improve our processes to meet the needs of our citizens, and assist in the growth of Toledo, Ohio.
