Our division is dedicated to the safe operation of the Hoffman Road landfill and ensuring proper management of municipal solid waste to support Lucas County residential curbside collection operations.

The landfill is operated in accordance with established industry standards, as well as Federal and State regulations. There are several engineering controls and monitoring programs in place for the protection of human health and the environment.

On average the facility accepts approximately 160,000 tons of solid waste annually. Based on current tonnages accepted, there is approximately 70 to 80 years of remaining air space approved by the Ohio EPA for landfill development. The city is currently in the process of constructing a new disposal cell.

Goals

  1. To continue support of Lucas County’s Republic Services’ contract for collection of residential refuse.
  2. To safely and efficiently manage the landfill as a city asset, employing technology and modern practices to further extend the useful life of the landfill.
  3. Continue to develop an engaged, well-trained and effective workforce.
