Severe Weather and Extreme Heat Watch

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Watch for Lucas County for Thursday, August 24, from 12 p.m. – 8 p.m. Severe thunderstorms are also expected late this evening and tonight, with another round of severe thunderstorms late Thursday afternoon/evening.

With heat index values of 105 to 110 degrees possible Thursday afternoon through early Thursday evening, the following sites will be open to the public as cooling centers:

Due to the heat, Republic Services will begin trash collection at 6 a.m. on Thursday instead of the normal 7 a.m. There is also a possibility of delay in the Toledo Assistance Program (TAPS).

To report water in your basement or fallen trees/tree branches in the public right-of-way, please call Engage Toledo at 419-936-2020.

To report power outages, call Toledo Edison at 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877).

Residents should be reminded that hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Confusion, dizziness, slurred speech, or unconsciousness are signs of heat stroke. When these types of symptoms are present, call 911 immediately and stay cool with ice or cold water until help arrives.
