What is bridge maintenance?
Inspection
Annual inspection of bridges over 10 feet in span as required by ODOT to ensure safety for vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
Maintenance
Cleaning scuppers, expansion joints, and bearings, removing unwanted vegetation, applying protective coatings to bridges to extend life, and reducing repair costs.
Repair
Minor repairs that extend the life of the bridge 2 to 5 years.
Rehabilitation/Replacement
A combination of capital improvement program dollars and grant funds to extend the life of bridges 25-75 years.
Guardrail Installation and Repair
Installation or repair of the guardrail along roadways near ditches and bridge embankments as determined necessary by federal regulations.
Bridge maintenance is managed by Road and Bridge Maintenance.
Ongoing Projects
Secor Road Bridge
The City of Toledo, in conjunction with the Village of Ottawa Hills,
will replace the bridge that carries Secor Road over the Ottawa River.
Secor Road will be closed from Valleston Pkwy. to Towerview Blvd. beginning on January 3, 2023. The project is expected to last approximately 7 months.
The project includes the replacement of the existing bridge and the installation of new approach pavement and sidewalks.
There will be a traffic detour from Bancroft Street to University Hills Boulevard to Douglas Road to Dorr Street during the closure. Detour signage will be placed in both directions. Please see the attached visual aids.
