About Toledo Litter League
A community-wide, summer-long, litter cleanup and beautification initiative!
Toledo Litter League is a competitive baseball-themed litter abatement program aimed at striking out litter in Toledo and the rest of Lucas County. Teams will consist of businesses, neighborhood groups, faith-based organizations, private clubs, civic organizations, and individuals.
Toledo vs. Columbus
This year's program will be a head-to-head challenge with the City of Columbus. Let's show 'em what we got, Toledo.
League Rules
Timeline
The league runs from May 27th – August 31st.
Team Divisions
This year teams will be divided into one of the following: Business/Corporation, Nonprofit/Faith-Based Organization, Community Group, or Family/Individual.
Team Members
Each team must have a Captain, team name, and a roster of no more than 20 players. Any player under age 13 must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or other responsible adult.
Zip Code
Teams must identify what zip code they will be collecting litter for. All cleanups by that team must then take place within that zip code.
Safety First
Each Team Captain is required to watch a safety video and provide a safety orientation at each cleanup. Each player must complete a liability waiver.
Register In Advance
All teams must register their litter cleanups with Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful in advance. Teams that participated last year must re-register.
Equipment Provided
Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful will provide each team with equipment that includes safety vests, gloves, litter grabbers, and trash bags. Equipment can be held by the team captain during the Litter League season given that the team is regularly conducting cleanups. After a three weeks lapse with no clean-ups, equipment must be returned.
Scoring
Team Captains are responsible for submitting a score sheet to report stats after each cleanup via the Toledo Litter League website. Teams will score 1 run for every full bag of litter they collect.
Prohibited Items
Tires and bulk items will not be included in scoring and cannot be collected during Litter League. If bulky items are found during cleanups, these will be reported on the Toledo Litter League website separately and Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful will coordinate their removal.

Teams should plan on doing 2 cleanups per month, June-August. All cleanup supplies will be provided by Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful. Earn points based on how much litter you pick up. As you compete with other zip codes, teams will have the opportunity to earn some great prizes along the way.

Teams will sign up and compete by zip code. Groups can then identify their own areas to clean, or Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful can help to identify areas in your zip code that are most in need of litter cleanup. The cleanup season will run from May 27th through August 31st. All teams will be invited to an end-of-season celebration at a Toledo Mud Hens game, with the teams collecting the most litter throughout the season scoring free tickets to this event!

After each cleanup, you will place your bags of litter at a predetermined location for pickup and report your team stats for the day. Earn points based on how much litter you pick up. As you compete with other zip codes, teams will have the opportunity to earn some great prizes along the way.
Each team will have a designated team captain. Team captains are required to watch a safety orientation video that includes league rules, safety instructions, and other important information. It is the responsibility of the team captain to then communicate this information back to the rest of the team. The team captain will also be responsible for ensuring that all players have completed a waiver.
