City of Toledo Department of Housing and Community Development Delivered Thanksgiving Turkeys and Hams to Service Providers

Monday, November 21, 2022

The Department of Housing and Community Development hosted their annual Thanksgiving Luncheon for more than 20 years, in partnership with homeless service providers, feeding programs, soup kitchens and food banks, for the homeless and under-served in our Toledo community.

Once again, this year, in lieu of an in-person lunch, turkeys and hams were delivered on November 17th to the following shelters and feeding programs:

* St. Paul’s Community Center
* Family House
* MLK Kitchen for the Poor
*Thomas Wernet Center
*Helping Hands of St. Louis

The event was organized by Bonita Bonds, Commissioner of Administrative Services and supported by staff from the division including: Melody Bell, Monica Brown, Morlon Harris, Zachary Lohman, Regina Phillips, Sue Thorpe, Jon Sherer and Darlene Williams.

The ham and turkeys were donated by Toledo Seagate Food Bank and prepared by Mr. James McDay from We Be Ribs. Mr. McDay prepared and delivered 25 turkeys and 20 hams. The two partners have made this event possible through their support for the last 20 plus years.

“This event is something my entire team, community partners, and I look forward to doing every year,” Bonita Bonds, Commissioner of Administrative Services said.

“I hope while we gather with friends and family during this holiday season, we take a moment to remember and say a special prayer for those who are homeless or are in need.”
