Fourth in the 419, presented by Taylor Automotive Group, is a multi-day downtown celebration leading up to Toledo’s preeminent Independence Day fireworks display on Wednesday, July 4.
Tens of thousands of people will visit downtown Toledo on the 4th for an evening of fun, food, and entertainment.Here is all you need to know about Wednesday’s big event:How long will the fireworks last? The Toledo Symphony will perform a live concert in Promenade Park that will begin at 9 p.m. and feature a spectacular program of patriotic favorites.
The Fourth in the 419 fireworks and the Toledo Symphony concert grand finale will begin at 10 p.m. and feature Liberty Bell March, Fanfare for the Common Man, 1812 Overture, and Stars and Stripes Forever. Due to the synchronization of the show, there will be three 30-second pauses during the fireworks display. The fireworks show will last approximately 20 minutes.Where can I view the fireworks? There are multiple places throughout the downtown area where you will get a great view of the fireworks show. Each one offers a little something different.
- Promenade Park - 2018 marks the return of Promenade Park to the downtown Independence Day celebration. It is the first time in Toledo history that the Fourth in the 419 fireworks will be accompanied with a live performance by the Toledo Symphony Orchestra. The park will open at 3 p.m. and admission is FREE to the public.
- Hensville Park - The Grape Smugglers will entertain from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. from the Owens Corning Stage in Hensville Park. Gates open at 6 p.m. and admission is FREE to the public.
- Rooftop and Patio Viewing - The Heights at the Renaissance Downtown Hotel, H20 Café at Imagination Station, Fleetwood’s Tap Room, and Holy Toledo Tavern in Hensville will all host viewing parties. Call ahead to make reservations and to check availability.
- River Viewing - There are multiple viewing locations on both sides of the river including International Park, The Docks, the Middlegrounds Metropark, and Summit Street from Jefferson to Adams. (NOTE: The Middlegrounds parking lot has advanced reservations for overnight camping guests. Walk-in guests are welcome for viewing.
Will there be any street closures during Fourth in the 419?
- The City of Toledo’s Transportation Division and the Toledo Police Department will implement special traffic control measures on July 4.
Before the Fireworks
Car and Foot Traffic
- The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Bridge will be closed to vehicles at approximately 9 p.m. It will remain closed until traffic has cleared the area after the fireworks. Barricades will be placed at key intersections on both sides of the river near the bridge to prevent access to this area. Pedestrians will be permitted on the King Bridge. Summit Street between Washington and Cherry will be closed to vehicular traffic at approximately 9 p.m. in the inbound directions into downtown. This will require eastbound Jackson Blvd, eastbound Adams Street and eastbound Jefferson Avenue to be closed at St. Clair Street. Jefferson Avenue is currently closed at Superior Street. Additionally, westbound Jackson is closed at Superior Street.
Marine Traffic
- The Coast Guard and other law enforcement organizations will be enforcing maritime rules on the Maumee River. Extended "No Wake Zone" for boaters on the Maumee River near downtown between the 1-280 Glass City Skyway Bridge and the Railroad Bridge upriver of the Anthony Wayne Bridge.· Marine traffic prohibitions in the Exclusion Zone designated by buoys near the fireworks shoot site adjacent to International Park.
- Marine traffic is prohibited in the established channel near downtown for the exclusive use by Emergency Marine Traffic.· Boaters should take it slow and safe around vessels that are anchored to minimize wakes.· After the display, departures will be escorted by marine patrol.
After the Fireworks
- The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Bridge will open to boat traffic after pedestrians clear the area. The King Bridge will open to vehicular traffic after the boat traffic clears under the bridge and pedestrians clear the area. Summit Street will be reopened to vehicles after the pedestrian and vehicular traffic clears the area after the fireworks. Eastbound Jackson, Adams and Jefferson will reopen at St. Clair at this time also. Anticipated reopening is at 11 p.m. The High Tower and Edison Garage on Summit St. and ProMedica Garage on Jefferson: Vehicles parked in these garages will be held until pedestrian traffic is cleared on Summit St.—expected time 11 p.m., Wait time in the garage, post-fireworks, will be about a half hour.· Vehicles parked in the Port Lawrence Garage and Superior Street Garage will be exiting from the structures as directed by law enforcement officers to minimize delay of the traffic flow on the roadway.
Do you have any tips on parking for the fireworks?
- Park on the side of downtown closest to your home or next destination. Park only in the designated paved parking areas. Please be considerate and do not park in a restricted area. Tow trucks will be on duty to remove vehicles illegally parked prior to and throughout the events. Please do not block intersections when coming to or leaving the downtown area. Blocking intersections only adds to the amount of time that people will have to wait. If you are riding a bike, park it on Summit Street before entering the riverfront viewing areas
Will there be any shuttle service available on July 4?
- TARTA will extend the Muddy Shuttle Service for an additional day to include the Fourth in the 419 Independence Day Celebration so you can enjoy a stress-free route without worries of traffic, congestion, and parking.
How will the TARTA Muddy Shuttle operate?·
- Arrive at any TARTA Muddy Shuttle Park-N-Ride location by 6 p.m. for 7 p.m. arrival in downtown Toledo. Cost is $1.25 per person each way – 60 cents for seniors 65 and over and people with a TARTA Reduced Fare ID and payable when you board the Muddy Shuttle. The Muddy Shuttle will drop-off on the third-base side of Fifth Third Field on N. Huron Street near Hensville. Return trips leave 20 minutes after the downtown fireworks show concludes. When the downtown fireworks are over, board the Muddy Shuttle bus on the third-base side of Fifth Third Field on N Huron Street (between Washington and Monroe Street). Ride any TARTA bus downtown for the regular fare.

Can I bring a lawn chair or blanket?
Lawn chairs and blankets will be permitted in Promenade Park, Hensville Park, and all public viewing areas.
Can I bring food and beverages into the Parks?

The entrance at the bottom of Jefferson Avenue near the ProMedica parking garage is a dedicated handicap entrance.
